AI value delivery for accounting, legal, and private equity

Your experts should be doing expert work.

In accounting and legal, the value is judgment and the liability that comes with signing your name to it. Everything else, moving data between systems, reformatting, chasing files, reconciling and cross-checking by hand, is overhead that steals from the work your clients pay for. Margin Shift finds where that value is buried, then builds the integrated systems that free it.

Plan it, then build it. Two separate engagements. We build on the systems you own. No lock-in.

What the audit delivers

Four standalone documents that map where expert value is buried and design the path to interoperability. The audit is its own engagement. You own everything.

A note from the principal

Why I built Margin Shift

I've spent over a decade helping firms untangle their operations before they spend on technology. The pattern never changes. The most expensive people in the building spend their days on work that does not need their expertise, and every new tool gets bolted onto a process nobody mapped. Margin Shift fixes the order of operations: find the value first, free the experts, then make the systems carry the work.

Why Margin Shift first

  • 1

    Vendor-neutral analysis

We don't sell software or take referral fees. Recommendations are shaped by your operations, not by which vendor pays us. If the best answer is a spreadsheet, we'll tell you.

  • 2

Fixed scope, locked before work starts

Scope, deliverables, and timeline agreed in writing before the engagement begins. No overages, no change orders, no surprises. We talk specifics on the call, not on a billboard.

  • 3

You own your systems and the plan

The audit stands on its own. If you build, the Integration Build is a separate engagement on the stack you already own. No proprietary platform, no lock-in, and no ongoing dependency on us. Interoperability is the opposite of a walled garden.

  • 4

    Evidence over opinion

Every recommendation traces back to documented evidence from your workflows. No generic best practices. No assumptions about what "firms like yours" should do.

How we protect your investment

What a Leverage Audit isn't

Most AI consulting engagements fail in predictable ways. The audit is structured to remove each one. If a vendor can't make these four commitments, ask them why.

Not a sales pitch for software we sell

We sell zero software and take zero referral fees. Recommendations are shaped by your operations, not by a vendor's commission. If the right answer is a spreadsheet, that's what the plan says.

Not a vague roadmap deck

Every recommendation traces back to documented evidence from your workflows, with effort, dependencies, and success indicators. It's specific enough to hand to any competent implementer tomorrow.

Not a six-month timeline that hides the ball

Audit plan in hand in about two weeks. Scope fixed in writing before kickoff. No hourly overruns, no surprise change orders, no scope creep.

Not a hostage situation

The audit and the build are separate engagements. Build with us, hand it to another partner, or run it in-house. We build on the systems you own, with no proprietary platform and no ongoing dependency on us. You decide who executes.

Common questions

Quick answers

Can we use the plan without hiring you for the build?

Yes. That's the entire point. The audit and the build are separate engagements. The four deliverables are portable, so you can run with the plan using your own team, hand it to another partner, or bring us in for the Integration Build. Your call, with no obligation either way.

Why this instead of hiring a Big-4 firm?

Faster, evidence-based, and you own the work product. A Big-4 engagement typically runs months and produces a slide deck plus a SOW for phase 2. The Leverage Audit ships a planning package you can act on in about two weeks, and the build is a separate engagement you control. No vendor commissions shaping the recommendations, because we sell no software.

We're already in vendor conversations. Is it too late?

No. That's exactly when this is most useful. The audit is the way to validate (or kill) those conversations with evidence instead of demos. You walk into the next vendor call with a workflow map and a prioritized list of what actually moves your margins, instead of being sold to.

Do you sign NDAs? What access do you need?

Yes, NDAs are standard practice and data-handling requirements are detailed in the SOW before any work begins. We don't need system admin access. We capture enough through structured discovery and process observation to map workflows without touching client data or confidential engagement files.

Find out what your experts could be doing instead.

Start with a pre-discovery call. We will talk through where your value is leaking and whether a Leverage Audit is the right next step. No pitch for software, because we do not sell any.
